Moved to the top of the list !

We have an incredibly hard working and dedicated volunteer at the farm.  For several years now,  Olivtina has been coming out to the farm and working with the boys.  She comes for a day, spends a night and then works the next day before returning to her home.  While on the farm she teaches the boys to cook and clean.  She is a grandmother figure to the kids, and they love her.     I just got word that she has some health issues.  It is not a serious problem right now, but left unchecked could get very bad, very quickly.  She has had the tests done, and the Dr's would like to operate within the next couple weeks.  The cost for the operation and the follow up care will be 70000 som or $800 USD ( $1150 cdn).

As I look back on the blog, I see so many needs that we have accumulated this summer ... camps, school supplies , dentists , vitamins and coal. I have no doubt in Gods provision and in time the funds will  come in,  but at this point we need to prioritize, and this need has to move to the top of the list.   Please consider making a donation to help Olivtina at this time. As soon as the funds come in we will be able to move forward.

Welcoming a Family Team

We are excited to be hosting a family from Cincinnati to the farm in September.   They will be with us for 1 month .   While there they will be helping with many of the fall projects .. Harvesting and canning, delivering school supplies, picnics with the schools , serving the seniors and coal deliveries.

I got a message from the oldest son Henry.  He was wanting to have a bit more information about the coal deliveries.  He has been working and saving his money to purchase coal and wanted to know how much he will be able to purchase so far.
Its exciting to me when I see young people get excited about helping people. He has enough saved so for for about 5 tons / enough for 5 families.   We got talking bout the entire Coal process, and I got thinking maybe you would be interested as well, and maybe like to donate toward the Henry Coal fund.
We have so many needs right now like the Summer camps, the Dentist, the back to school packs and some needed medical care that I was wondering what to do about the Coal .  So for the next month I will continue to focus on the other needs , but let people know that Yes we will be delivering coal, or at least at this point 5 tons of coal thanks to Henry.  Please consider supporting his efforts, in the memo line please put Henry's Coal Fund.

So here is the coal story.

Coal comes to Tokmok aby train a couple time a week. There are a few different types of coal.  The best coal is shinny and has larger pieces and very little dust .  It burns hotter and longer.  But which ever coal you get it is all the same price, usually  around $80 USD a ton.  but we will not know the prices until the season is in full swing.  Right now the demand is low so the price is a little lower.

Coal trucks fill up then it is up to the truck driver to purchase the coal and resell it at a profit.  We purchase so much coal that the drivers want our business so they are always on the watch for the good coal and let us know when they have it.

In the past we have tried delivering directly to peoples homes so they would dump part of the load in the front of the different homes , this was difficult to deliver evenly as well when a person is Old, disabled or single mom with little kids , this is difficult for them to move in before the neighbors start to help themselves.  So we have it delivered to the farm .

The deliveries come to us where the boys break up the bigger pieces and lode everything into bags .  20 bags = one ton of coal .  This is about 1/2 the coal a family will need for the winter, but it gives them a good start and the encouragement to keep working to purchase more coal .  In those cases where they people are too sick or unable to get more coal on their own, we try to do a second delivery in the new year if we have the funds.

Once the coal is bagged up it goes into the barn out of the weather until we are able to deliver it.  We also collect construction material all year and cut it and bag it as well so we can give a few bags as fire starter .

When we have the funds available we make up small food packages that we deliver along with the coal

On these deliveries we see the specific needs that families might have, and we sometimes receive other donations of things like Hats and clothing or vitamins and we are able to bring them.

It is very humbling to go on the deliveries.  Our teams start out excited about being able to help , but very quickly they start to become overwhelmed with the needs .

Starting in Mid August, people start to see the snow on top pf the mountain, every day the snow is a little lower as the summer starts to cool off.  Lower and Lower until the winter hits beginning of November can still  be warm but people are worried because in justa couple weeks  by the end of November, temperatures will drop to -20 and -30.

This is such an important and life saving cause .. Thank you Henry for caring.

Collecting items for Kyrgyzstan

Along with the back to school packs for the kids that we are trying to raise funds for, we have some other items needed.

We had a large team coming that had to postpone.  With them they would have brought many needed items at the farm , things like Vitamins , coffee, towels and ointments .

We have set up the Amazon wish list again where you can purchase and the items will be shipped directly to me so I can pack and bring them .  We have changed up our flights so that we will have more baggage space .

Back to school packs

A couple of years ago you may remember that we had a team come and help us pack and  hand out back to school bags .  This was an incredible stretch for us . We had just a couple weeks to raise over $7000 USD to purchase the bags.

I was amazed at how everyone pulled together and got behind this need. Then the team brought the knapsacks and topped the fund off to make it happen .

This year , the team was

coming back and would be here to help us again.  the key word is was !   With the jet fuel issues, the flights at that time have gone up by about $1000 per person.  This has lead to the very difficult decision to have to postpone the trip.

That said, We really need for our supporters to help us make this happen.  Having some basic supplies is a necessity for the kids to simply attend school.

Our goal is to raise $9000 USD to be able to meet this need.  Please consider sponsoring even one student for $15.

Lots of opportunity to Bless

We have a couple great opportunities to bless.  We had the guys in to the dentist yesterday ... Not good news .  Between them we have 12 teeth that need to be fixed right away .  The cost for this is 85 000 som .. that's  $971 USD or $1400 CND .  We will need to move ahead with this as soon as possible

But that's not the Big ask .  A few years ago we had Back to school celebrations and raised $7000 USD for 700 back packs of school supplies.  This year some of the official's have asked us if we could do this again and bring them in on September 30th as part of a welcome back to school and Kyrgyzstan Independence day celebration .. Just like everything else the costs of everything have increased , as well I brought a lot of stuff with me last time and this year I don't have the baggage to be able to off set those costs .  They would like packs for 600 kids and the cost to assemble a pack, including the pack is $15 USD a pack .. that comes to $9000 USD or $13050 CDN.

700 packs ready to go

Kids at the mountain school receiving their school supplies .

For the next few weeks I will be focusing on these needs . Please consider helping us .. A couple years ago we were able to raise the funds in just one week .. If it was not for the past miracles I might not believe it possible but we have seen what God can do and looking to Him again.
