Last spring as Quentin and I were working in the garden, he said to me that we should plant some current bushes because they were good for atracting the bees. I called a nurcery I knew but they had no idea where we would find them, so we went into the bazaar looking but again no one knew were to look. On our way home we drove up to the mountain to see our Mountain bees . Talbek was not home, but we went out and played with the bees for a while while we waited . Finaly we gave up waiting and headed back down the mountain .. On our way down we met Talbek racing back up ... he hopped out so happy to see us .. He said "I am so glad I caught you . I have some current bushes here for you , they are really good for the bees!"
Quentin asked if I had called him , wondering how he knew we were out looking for currents, and how did he know .. I told him it must have heard it through the God Vine .
They were just tinny little stickes when we planted them last spring, this year they are bushing out, and already have started to give fruit.
in the midle picture bellow you can see them making a boarder on the left side of the garden beside the zuccini.
The first week of June is always the weeding week when we get the gardens under control. If we weed earlier the seed plants are two small and delicate , but if we wait until now it is easier to sort the plants from the weeds .
This week is also the cutting of the small hay field behind the orchard . This is harvested by hand and put loose up in the barn.
As soon as the nesturtiums are a bit bigger I will let them know how tastey they are , and the right way to pick them so that they keep growing . The leaves and the flowers are both really good and taste like pepper. It makes them nice in a salad.
The apples and the approicots are starting to form on the trees now. and the beets are looking good .. so far I see apple sauce , pickled beets and Zuccini bread and relish on the list for the fall teams to can and pickle .
I have a few needs that I will try to post tomorrow. They will be ready to share as soon as we gather a bit more information and confirm the needs .. stay tuned for an opertunity to be a blessing.
