Monday was an early start. We dropped Emma and Ruby off over at the DaySpring house for training , picked up a few of the students from the university to get some translating practice, then headed to Bishkek to visit Aidir ( yes I spelled it wrong on the last post . it is supposed to have an r on the end.)
On the way, we stoped for a visit and lunch at the rehab centre. One of the first men we met there was our friend Baski. He was the recipient of support from iam1ru a year ago when he was told that there was nothing that could be done and that his brain tumor would be fatal with in weeks... but through the help and the pressure applied by our workers, and the financial support of many , he is just fine now.. he showed me his small scare, but other then that he is as good as new... he still laughs and grins when he sees me... but then so do lots , but I thing he means it in a nicer way.hahhaa...
Jengish continues to amaze us... his heart for the men , his heart for the homeless, in fact he has a great heart for any that would be considered the least of these .....
We are still working on getting him to the US for his training week next month.. We have one more week to get all the funds in for him, we are only $160 short .. if you want to help with this, I can assure you that he is good soil..... Funny that with this need before him, the need that he shared with me was not for himself , but for a family that her has been helping ...
There is a mother and kids who live beside the centre. Last year their dog turned on there son, and tore up his arm... her husband was so distraught that her shot the dog and then killed himself... You can't even get your mind around it , there are so may questions, but I guess what it comes down to is that this would have just been the final straw for him...
Jengish has come up with a plan to help her be self sufficient. They would like to buy he $100 worth of chickens. The rehab centre will help them set everything up and make sure she is able to care for them. ... $100 one time will sustain them... Now if you are thinking that this would be a great way to make a difference and want to be part of that, sorry, friends from Stirling / Campbellford, where on the scene for this one and met that need...
The next stop was to the Swetly Poot orphanage.. this is the one that was almost closed at Christmas, but with the pressure applied, it was agreed to let them stay in the building for now. It focuses on street kids and helps them to get back into families, as well as teaches them trades to support them selves... We went to the craft room and once again cleaned out there shelves.. The director was grins from ear to ear.. she said that they were waiting for us to return .. the kids knew that we would be back in March, so have been working like mad to get as much made as they could.. Boy had they got a lot done.. it was the most I have ever seen them have... The director says that tomorrow morning the kids will be all lined up at the door to get there money ( they get 50% of everything that they make) What was found is that a street child can not relax if they don't have money in their pocket.. when they have no money, they go back to the street and beg .
Michaela made lots of new friends
We went out for supper, and Isar tried Tabasco sauce for the first time... he loved it. on plain bread ... so we talked to the restaurant owner, and he sold us a bottle for him..
Last night we showed the movie fireproof, and Darren and Teresa did a marriage seminar based on the movie... Our kids looked after the kids while the seminar was going on.
When it was over we served a traditional Canadian meal.. roast beef , mashed potatoes and mixed veggies with gravy. Teresa thought it was hilarious to watch them sniff the broccoli and make strange faces when they tried it.. not a real hit. they had never seen it before.... but they sure loved the meat and potatoes..
Oh I almost forgot... We went with Teresa to the Nestle head quarters here.. they were so happy to meet us, and very accommodating... not only that , Lepta Plus ( Sergey's charity ) is now the newest distributor for Nestle in Kyrgyzstan.. this will be a great savings for us , especially for the baby formula for the Baby hospital.. not only that, but they will deliver to the container here in Tokmok for us for free.
Darren and Teresa with the Bishkek Nestle guys.
P.S. Teresa thinks that she is not getting enough comments, and wants to hear from everyone ... believe me she is getting lots of comments here.. she just does not understand the language..hahah
