10 day Christmas in Kyrgyzstan Pie in the face Challenge starts soon.

In the fall of 2008, eight years ago now, we returned home from Kyrgyzstan with a burden to celebrate Christmas with all the kids that had become part of our lives that year here in Kyrgyzstan.  The big question was how would we ever get the word out and where would the money ever come from..  

It was at that time our friend Cindy and Dominick Lajoy who had just returned from picking up their son up from Kyrgyzstan came up with a challenge for her friends .  "If they would raise $1000 by Thanksgiving day, for Christmas in Kyrgyzstan," then Cindy would let her kids throw a pie in her face.  From there the challenge has grown to see literally thousands of orphans, institutions and families in need have an opportunity to celebrate with a small party and gift, as well as Vitamins through out the year.  

Over the years others have joined in the challenge .  here is how it works .. 

1. let me know that you are in for the challenge and I will sign you up . 

2. I will put a tracker on this blog that will keep track of the challengers ad where they stand in their goal 

3. Direct your friends here to the blog to make an on line donation (tax receipt in the US and Canada)   you may have to hound them a bit , but it is for a great cause .. 

4. When you hit $500 in donations your name on the lost will turn Red, and you get someone to throw a pie in your face and post it on Facebook for the world to see.  ( always a riot and fun for all ) 

and just like that 50 kids will have a day to remember 

A very cool thing has happened.  Over the last few years, many of those who have signed up for the challenge are kids who have come from the orphanages and remember what it meant to them to have this celebration, and want us to continue to go back and celebrate with their friends .   

My birthday is Nov 14 and Thanksgiving is on the 24th .. I think that would be a great start date and finish date .. 10 day  Christmas pie in the face challenge.
